Our clients like that we recommend they visit our favorite Costa Rican hotspots like the Arenal Volcano, Monteverde and then choose a beach to relax at for the last days of their holiday – this fun Rainforests, Clouds and Waterfalls itinerary has Arenal, Monteverde and the up-and-coming Montezuma beach area included for a well-rounded, eco-adventure vacation you will thoroughly enjoy in Costa Rica!

This itinerary is super flexible – you can go white water rafting or a safari float and then canyoning or ziplining and then biking or boating and later horseback riding or hiking and finishing with surfing or snorkeling. This all-inclusive-style Costa Rica vacation has it all – tours, transportation, nice hotels and even some meals thrown in!

Day 1

Arenal Volcano: Bienvenidos a Costa Rica! A friendly driver will pick you up for a private transfer to the Arenal Volcano – you’ll have FREE WiFi and you can stop anywhere along the way to stretch your legs, take some photos and breath the freshness of the deep rainforest that surrounds you.

Day 2

Arenal Volcano: Welcome to the Epicenter of Adventure of Costa Rica! Like we said, this is a perfectly-flexible itinerary designed just for you!

Options:
1. Rafting anyone?? Do you like getting wet and feel your heart thump hard against your chest as you paddle with all your might down a non-stop-action class 3-4 raging tropical river? Or a calmer version on class 2-3 ideal for first-timers and families?
2. Do you like floating along on a lazy jungle river lined with monkeys, birds and iguanas? We’d recommend choosing our Monkeyboat Safari Float.

You’ll get a nice lunch and then settle back into your hotel and use the onsite natural hot springs and relax.

Day 3

Arenal Volcano: The Adventure Continues… your choice of a quintessential Costa Rica tour!

Options:
1. The famous Lost Canyon Adventures Canyoneering tour to go rappelling, down-climbing, hiking, jumping and river tracing in a deep, tropical canyon near the Arenal Volcano. Our rugged, mountainous terrain is ideal for incredible canyoning options and our Lost Canyon comes complete with huge, breathtaking waterfalls and thick rainforest with surprises each step of the way! This is a unique, multi-sport adventure of a lifetime – we invite you to go where very few people have roamed!
2. Go zip lining from one canopy treetop to the next. Our ziplining tour is considered one of the top zip lining adventures in Costa Rica – your friendly, professional guides will have you strap on a harness and helmet and then head up to the top of the canyon to start your canopy zip line journey from tree to tree!

Have lunch, go back to your hotel to freshen up and go explore the fun, lively town of La Fortuna.

Day 4

Monteverde: Time to move on – today is your choice of biking or boating as your adventure up to the cloud forests of Monteverde.

The opulence of the cloud forest with its lush, brilliantly-colored fauna, animals, and birds is something you should not miss while you are in Costa Rica!

Options:

1. Adventure Connection Mountain Biking to Monteverde – Do a biking adventure as a means of transport from the Arenal Volcano to Monteverde. If you love to ride a mountain bike, let the journey be your adventure and do an adventurous bike ride as a means of transport up to Monteverde. The road is a rugged ravel road with plenty of rocks, but the scenery is exquisite with a combination of secondary rainforest, farmland and great views of the lake and Arenal volcano.

2.Take our Van-Boat-Van boat transfer across Lake Arenal. This man-made lake is the second-largest lake in Central America. It’s till a bit of an adventure because the landing on the other side of the lake is a bit of a hike to get to the van that will take you up the incredibly steep, gravel, mountainous road up to Monteverde.

Tuck in for the night in this misty and enchanting mountain-top wonderland.

Day 5

Monteverde: Making the most of Monteverde and exploring the Monteverde Cloud Forest

Options:
1. Monteverde is a cowboy town and there is no better place to ride a horse in Costa Rica. The scenery is absolutely spectacular and there are rides for all levels of adventure-seekers. Try the Ride in the Clouds for a nice, 2-hour trot with a friendly Costa Rican cowboy.

2. Do our Monteverde Twilight Night Hike at the Animal Reserve where you are bound to spot the fascinating critters hiding out in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. You will be awed and amazed as the forest comes alive after dark on this off-the-beaten-path Monteverde tour. This tour is perfect for those who are anxious to see up close and personal the hidden wonders of the cloud forest by night. You’ll catch up with your naturalist guide right after a brilliant sunset from the hills of Monteverde Your guide will point out the forest creatures that inhabit the area.

And tonight you get to explore the extraordinary cuisine of Monteverde – many delicious restaurant options to choose from!

Day 6

Montezuma: Continue the exploration… vamos a la playa! Today will be an adventurous travel day getting off the mountain and heading down to the Pacific Coast to the remote beach area of Montezuma.

Rise and shine to take a Shared-Ride Tourist Shuttle Transfer to Montezuma that will take a good couple of hours. You will head down to the port of Puntarenas to then board the ferry. The ferry ride across the picturesque Gulf of Nicoya takes about an hour to the other side and another hour or so to Montezuma Beach.
Chill out to the easy-going ways to one of Costa Rica’s funkiest, grooviest beach towns. If you were planning to get away from it all, you’ve come to the right place! There are very few services available – no big grocery stores or malls, but plenty of good eats, yoga, surfing and relaxing available here!

Day 7

Montezuma: Snorkeling or Surfing – Today is your last day of having to make any choices then you can just relax!!

Options:

1. Take a cruise along the coast for just under an hour to get to the Tortuga Island Snorkeling site off in the distance. You’re bound to catch site of some dolphins jumping near the bow of the boat and spot other sea creatures – even some humpback whales frolicking off on the horizon!

Once we get to Tortuga Island, we will walk along the white sandy beach to get to the first offshore snorkeling site. The waters here are generally crystal-clear and the volcanic-rock reef houses everything from brightly-colored King Angelfish, Morays that peek-a-boo from little underwater caves, Spotted Eagle Rays and much more. Many people consider the snorkeling at Tortuga Island one of the best areas on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica! Last time I did this trip, our guide even grabbed some oysters and stewed them up in a fresh ceviche right on the beach for us!

2. Now’s your chance to catch some waves and try your hand at Montezuma Surf Lessons. Our expert guides will get you snapping up on your board in no time and catching waves on your own. Never tried surfing? No worries – Montezuma is a great place to learn! Already know how to get up on a board and want to perfect your moves? We have a professional surf instructor for you, too!

And if you’ve got enough energy after your full-on vacation in Costa Rica, try the Tropicana Bar for drinks and music at night.

The Sano Banano hotel where you are likely staying has great, healthy food as the name implies (Sano Banano means “Healthy Banana” in Spanish.) But if you want to get off-site, try the restaurant at the Hotel Tropico Latino. It has poolside dining with lots of international options, big portions and affordable prices.

And if you’re looking for something even more-authentic, Mary’s is a popular place, especially for locals with great food and decent prices.

Day 8

Montezuma: FREE DAY – you’ve probably waited your whole vacation to have a day to rest – now you’ve got it! But this itinerary is called the Rainforests, Clouds and Waterfalls of Costa Rica, so don’t forget to go hike to the famous waterfalls nearby Montezuma – you won’t want to miss out on these cool, tropical cascades. A great way to chill off in cool waters while soaking up the rays of the hot sun!

Day 9

San José: Is this vacation starting to wind down already? Today it’s time to take a morning Shuttle Transfer to the San José Area – We’ll be sure to plan your departure or taking into consideration the ferry times and sometimes treacherous road conditions.

Day 10

Home Sweet Home: Adios Amigos! We’ll arrange a taxi from your hotel to the Airport SJO – be sure to plan for at least 3-hour pre-departure arrival at the airport.
