Description

Responsible tourism is one of the best ways to travel because it introduces you to real local culture, while helping others in need at the same time. Imagine how good it would feel knowing that you made a difference in the environment or in someone’s lives. On this adventure you will be a helping hand in a nursing home, elementary school, and rural farm; support the Maleku indigenous tribe; and help sea turtles during their nesting process! You will also have plenty of time for rest, play, and adventure in both the mountainous rainforest and at the stunning beach.

On this interactive getaway to Costa Rica, visit two gorgeous rainforest waterfalls, bike through the rural towns, white water raft down an exuberant river, and have opportunities for standup paddling, kayaking, snorkeling and relaxing on the sandy beach!

Day 1

San Jose
Welcome to Costa Rica! Your driver and adventure guide will be at the airport with a sign that has our name on it to meet and greet you. We’ll then take you to your hotel in San Jose near the airport where you will get settled in and have dinner with your guide to talk about your upcoming adventures. Overnight at Adventure Inn with breakfast

Day 2

Arenal Volcano
Check out from your hotel and head to the Arenal Volcano area while participating in one of the great adventures of Costa Rica on the way! You’ll have a choice of river rafting on the world-famous Sarapiquí River or the beautiful Río Balsa. Be sure to bring secure shoes, clothes to get wet in, and a change of clothes for after your tour. You will then continue your driving trip to La Fortuna where you will check into a hotel that is situated at the base of the famous Arenal Volcano. Overnight at Volcano Lodge or similar. Breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Day 3

Arenal Volcano

Today you will get to experience our popular 3-in-1-Community-COMBO tour:

1) Start off by visiting a charming rural school and learn about local Costa Rican traditions. You’ll have the opportunity to read to the children, play & enjoy a nice snack.
2) Then, head to a local farm to learn about organic farming techniques, get your hands dirty by helping on the farm, and have a delicious natural lunch
3) Afterwards, hike down to the base of the impressive 200-ft La Fortuna Waterfall and play in the cool, fresh waters! (Proceeds from the waterfall admissions go to support local infrastructure projects)
Overnight at Volcano Lodge or similar. Breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Day 4

Arenal Volcano
The La Fortuna area is blessed with having a tight-knit community of friendly hard-working people, with a great respect for the elderly. Today’s adventure takes you on an interesting bike ride through rolling hills and across rivers to spend some time at a home of elderly folks. You will have a chance to get to know them and participate in some of their arts & crafts that they make to help raise money for their facilities – this will be a heart-warming experience for all! Overnight at Volcano Lodge or similar. Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Day 5

Playa Samara
Playa Samara is our favorite beach in Costa Rica because it still has a local-Costa Rican, fishing-village feel to it – many of the businesses are locally-owned and the local-government does not allow development on the pristine, white-sanded, palm-lined shore of Playa Carrillo next door. You will be a close walk to the beach where you can relax and enjoy the views. You will have the choice of either Kayaking or Stand Up Paddling to the deserted Chora Island and snorkeling by the coral reef.
Overnight at Hotel Giada or similar. Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Day 6

Playa Samara
You will have another day to enjoy the beach and the fun town of Playa Samara with unique shopping, delicious beachside restaurants and much more. And don’t miss out on a fabulous Pacific sunset while you are here! You’ll then head out on a Turtle Observation Tour in the late afternoon to see the turtles come up on the beach to lay their eggs. Your presence will help defend the eggs from predators, strengthening the turtle species and allowing them to grow, reproduce and thrive! (Turtle Observation Tour runs depending on the season)
Overnight at Hotel Giada or similar. Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Day 7

San José
Adios Amigos! We hope you’ve enjoyed your adventures and responsible tourism in Costa Rica! You will take an early drive back to the airport to catch your flight home. We hope you come back to visit Costa Rica in the future and take plenty of wonderful memories back with you, including Costa Rican souvenirs like coffee, hand-made chocolate, locally-made crafts and much more! Breakfast.
